It’s “Crunch” Time on the 5th Wheel
By Tracy Caywood | June 30, 2008
Seriously kids, we wanted to simply pick up our fifth wheel, hitch it up, head on over to Hanna Park (just about 15 minutes from where we live in jax Beach) and load it up with all of our stuff that we’re taking on the trip. So Saturday around Noon, we headed on over to SunCoast RV, where they’d been storing our vehicle, and told ‘em to hitch her up! We’re ready to rock n’ roll.
Without a flinch, they were pulling that sucker around to the front, and aiming it in the perfect direction for us to lock up on it and drive it off. But first thing, Dan hit the gas a little too hard with the tail gate down and put a big dent it the thing. O.K. So not such good beginner’s luck, right? We laugh it off and head on down the street to continue on with our plan.
We pulled in to Hanna Park and the gate keeper tells us to pull off to the side of the road, because we have to go inside the building to check in. Just as we do that, Derek yells “Dad! You’re gonna hit the sign!”. By the time he realized that our 14 year old (and quite observant young lad) was serious, we heard the crunching.
Now that right there is funny..I don’t care who you are. And although it stressed Dan out a little bit, we made it through the first day with our new home JUST fine. It stormed withinan hour of us finally pulling in to our site, but not a big deal. And that cat?? He’s doing fine now (it took him about 24 hours to get used to the joint). More fun and excitement to come! We haven’t even left our home town yet!
Here we come Colu bus. The Griswalds are on the way.

That is hysterical! ROFL! When I moved from MI to CA I rented a giant truck (I mean giant not the little dinky truck) to drive me and my stuff. I hadn’t realized it would be so big so drove 10 mph from the rental place to my house screaming out the window at folks to get outta my way for their own protection. On the way to MI I ran into a gas station pump (luckily didn’t blow up it up), drove into a ditch, ran over a sign and broke down in Utah. It was an adventure for sure. Drive safe and can’t wait to read about the adventures, er the ones not involving knocking things over.
